CD-ROM— Compact Disc-Read Only Memory is a laser-encoded optical memory storage medium on which digital data is stored. CD-ROM is the basis for many existing CD formats. Newer CD-ROMs hold about 650mb of data, sound, and limited stills and motion video.

Data Recovery -is the process of salvaging data from damaged, failed, corrupted, or inaccessible secondary storage media when it cannot be accessed normally. Often the data are being salvaged from storage media such as hard disk drives, storage tapes, CDs, DVDs, RAID, and other electronics. Recovery may be required due to physical damage to the sthttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Data_recovery

Deleted File—A file that has been erased or is no longer recognized by the operating system as a valid file.  The space on the hard drive the file had encompassed is now available to be used, however the data that made up the original file still may occupy the space on the drive.

Electronic Media—is media that can store digital or electronic data .  Some examples of electronic media are: CD ROMS, SD cards, Hard drives, thumb drives, floppy diskettes and DVD ROMS.

Forensic Data Recovery— Conducting data recovery in a forensically sound examination environment  which is completely under the control of the examiner: No actions are taken without the examiner permitting them to happen; and when the examiner permits or causes an action he/she can predict with reasonable certainty what the outcome of the action will be.  A forensically sound examination environment can be accomplished by ensuring all examinations are conducted by trained examiners, using forensically sterile media, forensically sound hardware and software which has been properly validated.  Forensic Data Recovery is often used to discover evidence of a crime in criminal cases, or to provide evidence or Electronic discovery in a civil case.

Hard Drive The hard drive is the primary storage unit of the computer. It is where the operating system, applications, files and data are kept. Hard drive space is typically measured in Gigabytes (GB) or storage; the larger the number, the more programs, games and data you can use on your computer.

Media Wiping —Overwriting of existing data on a piece of media so that any existing data will be obliterated. You may need media sterilization if you are discarding a computer, or computer related media (like a hard drive, thumb drive, floppy diskette).  Media sterilization ensures that ALL data has been removed from the media.

Password Cracking—Password cracking is the process of gaining access to a file or data that has been password protected.  Sometimes the password can actually be retrieved and made available other times it is not possible to obtain the password, however is still may be possible to access the data or file without the password

SD Card— Secure Digital cards are small memory devices that can be inserted into some electronic products, such as camcorders. They are used for storing digital media such as audio, video, or picture files.

Simple Data Recovery—Simple data recovery is data recovery without forensic examination and forensic reporting.  Most individuals that have lost data by accident will use simple data recovery.  Simple data recovery is simply recovering lost or deleted data without a forensic examination and report.

USB flash drive—A tiny, removable flash memory device that plugs into a computer's USB port. Though the official name is USB flash drive, there are many other names also used in popular language, including key drive, jump drive, thumb drive, flash drive, USB drive, keychain drive, memory key, pen drive and the like. Some of the names used in popular language are based on individual brand names of USB flash drive models, others are simply short forms of the full USB flash drive term, or a reference to the devices' looks or method of carrying them.
