Advanced Forensic Recovery of Electronic Data (A.F.R.E.D.) was founded in August of 2007. A.F.R.E.D. specializes in computer forensics and the recovery of data from electronic media and electronic devices.  We also offer password cracking and media wiping services.

A.F.R.E.D. can assist in lost file recovery, email recovery and document recovery, including personal records,  personnel records, financial records, invoices, customer databases, electronic media like audio files and motion picture files, and numerous other documents and information. Most of the time a computer is the primary means of storage for the data, but that data can also be stored on cellular phones, personal data assistants (PDA’s), digital cameras and personal data devices such as iPods. There are many devices that can store data electronically.

These are some of the items that hold electronic data, that recovery is possible from, they include PDA's, Cellular Phones, Digital Cameras, IPODS, Notebook computers, thumb drives and computers.

Who are we?  What do we do?

In addition to the electronic devices that are used to store data, often times this data is stored on removable media like CD’s, DVD’s, thumb drives, and floppy diskettes. At times, electronically stored data can be lost, either by intentional or unintentional means. The data can be deleted, or it can become corrupt. The media that holds the electronic data often fails or becomes unstable.

A.F.R.E.D has the ability to recover data from computers, electronic devices, and computer related media, even if the media or computer has failed, or if the data has been deleted, intentionally or unintentionally.  Additionally, A.F.R.E.D. can conduct computer forensic examinations of computers and related items.

The company is owned and operated by John P. Stepansky, a police officer working for a major police department in Pennsylvania.  He has conducted hundreds of forensic examinations of computers.  He is also a part time instructor at Butler County Community College, developing and teaching the Computer Forensic curriculum.
